City Athletic FC

Honours: League Cup Winners 2002 – Runners Up 2001

Potted History: City were formed in the early 90s by Toni Graham under various names and represented Birmingham Christian Centre. We joined the WMCFL in 2001 under the City Athletic name after much debate. City struggled in the first few WMCFL games but went on to be the dominant side of Division Two that year. (Although not awarded the title after an embarrasing end of season confrontation with close rivals Delta).

City got to the League Cup final that year beating league champs Woodgate on the way 7-0, but sadly were beaten 1-0 by Rowley College in the final. City’s second and final season was successful too, going a step further in the Cup beating Calvary 4-1 in the final. Our league form mirrored the previous season and a slow start gifted Rowley College the league title and we had to settle for second place. We had intended to carry on in the league but to be honest we didn’t appreciate how much time and effort Toni put into City and the team folded. We was a very young side and took for granted of all the hard work that goes into running a team and were happy to turn up and play, while Toni put all the hard work in behind the scenes.

Three former City players still play in the league. Myself, Ashley Innis and Matt Williams all play for Clarendon.
