Sporting Zion

Potted History: Ben Lawrence June 2009 – The idea for starting the new team was birthed out of Zion Athletic, who also hail from Zion Christian Centre (formerly Zion Pentecostal Church in Halesowen). Sporting are the sixth team formed from ZCC. We acknowledged and saw a need for a new team as we had a lot of youngsters coming up from the youth system at the church and others who were interested in joining a team. So we now have a balance of younger lads and a few more experienced (myself, Ash Guttridge, Jay Barrett transferring across!) taken from Zion Athletic.

The leadership of the team is myself as Secretary and Dave Guttridge as footballing manager, with Jay Barret as captain. We have no affiliation with the former Sporting Zion and wish to establish and make a new name for ourselves.

Sporting Zion last for two seasons in WMCFL, citing financial difficulties as the reason for their folding at the end of the 2010/11 season. Whilst in WMCFL, Sporting did well, getting promoted from Division Three in their first season after finishing third behind Junction Ten and DC Dynamos and amassing 48 points. They followed this up mid-table in their second and final year.
