Charlemont Star 0 v 4 St Marys

Following our opening day draw with Sheldon we needed to get a win on the board and that’s what we did. Charlemont competed throughout and never stopped trying to hit us on the break, but we should have been more than the one Andrew ‘Tink’ Beeson goal ahead by half time. Charlemont had their spells but I felt we controlled the game well and created the best chances. The goal came from a half cleared corner which Locke hooked back in behind the defence and Tink nipped in between the defender and keeper to nod the ball in. We felt we deserved a goal at this point and could have extended our lead a number of times. However Charlemont had a header just wide and a couple of other half chances with their left winger lively. HT 0v1.
Second half we controlled the game and made more of our chances with Tink getting a second after good work by Jones, and Wiedeman and Coleman also scoring after good moves. As in the first half Charlemont never gave up and continued to press and look for a goal or two even at 0v4. On to Rowley next week.
