This morning we entertained the well-deserved Division 2 Champions Chawn Hill hoping to put our disappointing 5-0 defeat against Connect Sports last weekend behind us.
The opening goal came on 28 minutes when Chawn took the lead from a corner with a close range header past the hapless Allan Wilde, 0-1. Both teams continued to create opportunities; we managed to get through a 15 minute spell when Chawn dominated in Midfield, winning the second ball but fortunately for us didn’t capitalise on their possession. We managed to keep ourselves in the game, and finally equalised from a corner on 41 minutes, a left wing corner, with Gary Lunt hitting a ball in with pace and Rory Taylor striking the ball home from 6 yards out, 1-1.
The second half continued in the same as the first with both teams seeking the next goal. On 55 minutes Jamie Holder put a through ball to Stuart Smith who calmly slotted past the Chawn Keeper, 2-1. We had chances to extend our lead as did Chawn to score the equaliser. We made two substitutions, on 68 minutes Tom Slater replaced Rory Taylor and 70 minutes James Wood replaced his brother Danny. We created a great opportunity to finally put Chawn to the sword with Danny Holland spurning a one-on-one producing an excellent save from the Chawn keeper. Aidan Hackwood replaced Bradley Tiernan on 84 minutes, to our relief we held on to claim a vital 3 points and keep our season alive.
Once again congratulations to Steve and his lads on gaining promotion to Division 1. Well done to Star keeper Allan Wilde who made a number of game changing saves.
