A good morning’s sport was had on Four Dwelling’s 4G pitch as two of the oldest WMCFL outfits, lumbered back into action in advance of the 2014-15 season. Neither side was full strength or fully fit but I watched a decent game of football with my old mates Willis and Vernon (the latter of whom in his dotage made an enforced sub appearance). We’d got a couple of Mark’s mates in to provide cover and a ‘guest’ in our one-time talisman Matty Williams (who looked as good as ever) and Mark kept a rolling sub and a fluid formation with some success.

First half was even but we gifted them a chance midway through which was expertly dispatched for 1-0. Olly split their defence just before the break but could only clear both keeper and bar. The introduction of Sammy Nelson at half time seemed to do the trick and he was soon helping himself to an equaliser as we got on top. This was followed quickly by the game’s best goal as Christie threaded a beautiful reverse pass to Craigy to go round the keeper and finish. Back came Connect and a well worked goal kept things tight. Cue Craig to create for Sammy’s second and Matty to power in a header reminiscent of that which won the 2nd Division championship decider six years ago!

Sporting as ever, good morning’s work: all the best to Willis and his lads.
