A momentous day as we recorded our first ever win in the league cup, after previous year defeats against Darkhouse (2010), Sandwell United (2011), Sheldon (2012) and All Saints Olympic (2013).
There were a couple of changes to the starting eleven with Haydn Ellis and James Wood missing out due to injury and illness respectively with James Rogers and Stuart Smith coming in as their replacements.
We scored after 14 seconds with Jamie Holder smashing the ball home after a defensive error, 0-1. Danny Wood on 17 minutes slotted the ball home from close range after a right wing cross from Jamie Holder, 0-2. Within a minute, on 18 minutes, Tom Collins headed home from a left sided corner taken by James Rogers, 0-3. Corinthians were a constant threat and pulled a goal back on the stroke of half time from a corner, 1-3.
The second half started in a similar fashion to the first half with Corinthians creating the better of the goal scoring chances, our keeper Allan Wilde making a string of decent saves. If Corinthians had taken one of those chances it may well have been a different game but we held on and kept them out. Our substitutions on 57 and 63 minutes saw Chris Watson replace Bradley Tiernan and Gary Lunt replace Tom Collins respectively.
Our best and clear cut chance fell to Stuart Smith who lobbed his shot over the onrushing keeper, only to see it go wide. We did score again in the final minute when Danny Wood passed a through ball to Danny Holland, whose initial left foot shot was saved only to be lashed in with his right foot from 10 yards out, 1-4.
4-1 was harsh on Corinthians but we managed to put our chances away today when in the past we have been punished for not doing so. Good luck to SK and all the best for the rest of the season. Next week we return to league action with us entertaining Clarendon.
