Corinthians SK 1 Wednesbury Baptist 4

Wednesday night saw us play a team that were relegated from Division 1 last season, add that to the fact it was a midweek game and our second game in 4 days meant we went into this fixture knowing it was going to be tough. The started with both teams playing some good free flowing football, we took the lead when Chrissy T rose highest from a corner kick to nod it down into the bottom corner 1-0. The game then continued to play out with both teams creating chances and as we entered the final ten minutes of the half Robbie hit the post but luckily Nick who had gambled by running in at the back post, reacted quickest and met the rebound to put it beyond the keeper. Half time 2-0. The second half began with Corinthians SK starting like a team with the bit between their teeth and us playing with the complacency of a team with a 2-0 lead. Corinthians bright start paid dividends as they halved the deficit. 2-1, Game on. The goal appeared to reignite our desire to finally get a win under our belts and this was reinforeced when ‘Tino’ ran down the left wing and beating 3 defenders in the 18 yard box before firing in 3-1. The second half continued with us playing some great possession football and we got our reward with a wonderfully crafted team goal – playing out from the back with every player getting at least one touch of the ball it finally fell to sub Karl who cushioned it on his chest bought it down and turned his man before laying it off to Pete who read Karl’s run and instantly played it into his path who lifted it over the onrushing keeper it to increase our lead. Final score 4-1. Great result and even better game to watch between two footballing sides but more importantly was the three points and our first win in the league. Once again a big thank you to all the officials tonight for allowing us to play these games
