Dudley Lions 1 Living Hope 5

A beautiful autumnal morning, sunshine and a gentle breeze. Perfect conditions for football.
LHC in the usual red and black visiting their former home to take on the Lions of Dudley – immaculately presented in yellow and black. Very much a local derby if you can have such a thing in a close nit league like ours.
LHC took just 7 minutes to open their account. Ben hunted down the ball inside the Lions area then knocked the ball back to Jack for a first time shot into the far corner. 1-0
If the lads thought it would be easy then Dudley thought otherwise as they battled to get back in the game. Well organised, they frustrated our midfield and their back four played brilliantly, cutting out numerous through ball chances and generally protecting their keeper from any serious action. No surprise then when they equalised through dogged determination and a LHC defence that stopped to looked at the linesman 1-1
With 5 minutes to half time LHC finally found their gears and two goals quickly followed: First Andy claimed an assist to give Jack a first half brace then Josh set up Pete to give us a healthy half time lead.
For long periods the second half was in stalemate. Dudley’s defence continued to battle and we found it hard to break them down. Lucky for us then that Pete suddenly found himself on the receiving end of a mis-hit back pass and miles clear. With all the time in the world all he had to do was round the keeper for a simple tap in.
The biggest cheer came in the final seconds of the game. Pete tricked and teased into the box before firing low to the far post for ‘supersub’ Luke Raybould to tap in for his first ever LHC goal.
All in all a good September for us. Nine points from twelve, seventeen goals and two clean sheets. Lets make October even better!
