On the surface, this result wont do justice to the fighting spirit displayed by Hawbush’s young lions at South Road on Thursday Night.
We found ourselves 2-0 down after 15 minutes and reduced to 10 man following a sending off for denying a goal scoring opportunity and for the next 60 minutes it was real back to the wall stuff. We had to defend for our lives and in truth hardly got out of our half as Maple Leaf launched attack after attack with home keeper Ben Walton saving us more than once. But the revised back line of Matt,Mac, George, Ryan, Ashby, Jack (and others at times) fought well and up front and midfield we tried our best to create something.
Finally our opportunity came after 70 minutes when out of nowhere Arron Hope scored his fourth goal in four games to give Hawbush a glimmer of a chance at 2-1 and following some renewed pressure we equalised from a corner shortly after when the defender turned into his own goal.
As the game drew to a close Maple Leaf were also reduced to ten men when their keeper didnt take his opportunity and fell foul to the language rule.
Both teams had chances late on but overall 2-2 was a fair result.
