Living Hope Church 3 v Maple Leaf Rovers QMC 4

So the start of a new season, which for Maple Leaf Rovers saw many changes from the previous year. Only 3 of the starting 11 had worn the black and white of Maple Leaf before and the kit and sponsor were also new. Our thanks to Moochers bar for their support this season.
With the photos and warm up out the way the game began with MLR playing an unfamiliar 4-5-1 as Manager Andres Senior attempted to fit in all his new players. This formation lead to some confusion and MLR oddly found themselves overrun in the middle of the park despite having an extra man in there. This confusion lead to Maple conceding not one but two goals from shots well outside of the box. Assistant Tordoff’s advice was listened too by Senior and the change to 4-4-2 quickly lead to a goal. Although a bit of luck was the real reason. The Living Hope keeper fumbling a long shot from Marler allowing the speedy Price to race in and tap the ball into an empty net. Lighting Price continued to cause problems and a through ball from Knowles unlocked Hope’s defence and Price raced through to level the game up. 2-2 at the break
Maple started the second half well and Hayden & Pugh were introduced to the action Hayden chipped a ball forward for Price to chase resulting in Hope’s last man taking him out . This could only be a red card which was swiftly issued by the ref.
Seconds later Hayden’s perfect pass set Price free to complete his hat-trick. and the very next attack saw Hayden pull up and replacement Ben Swain called into action . Hayden’s 2 and a half minutes were eventful to say the least
Credit to Living Hope who continued to battle and a third goal from outside the box from a poor clearance drew the scores level. But Maple Leaf were not to be denied the victory. The tricky Green finding space down the right to clip in a cross for Knowles to crash home the winner and give Maple Leaf the spoils. A great game to be part of and an excellent start to the season for MLR. We look forward to the rematch!!!!
