Living Hope 5 Brierley Hill 3

After our 1st win in what seemed like forever and having a game called off last week, Living Hope turned up to bright sunshine over a freshly marked pitch. We knew today would be tough against a very experienced, hard working team. And that’s how it was.

We started off quickly and within a few minutes Lewis had powered a shot past the keeper and it was 1-0. It was soon 2-0 Lewis again on the score sheet. We seemed to be attacking Brierley Hill at every chance and a low cross found its way to Bob to make it 3-0. (Starting to like the feeling of a 3 goal cushion).

Living Hope continued to attack and a few shots off target including a volley from Dave going inches wide. Brierley Hill had a few good chances in the first half andmanaged to pull a goal back right on ht.
3-1 ht.

2nd half Brierley came out quicker than us and kept the pressure on and on. A bit shocked, we weathered the storm and managed to get the 4th goal. Jake again finding the net with a header at the far post from a Callum free kick. The last 25 minutes both teams went for it but we came off worst with the Hill scoring 2 goals in six minutes. Firstly a good shot beating James at the far post then a ball through our defence seemed to have run out of play and we stopped (basic schoolboy error) no whistle then the flag went up briefly before going down again as Brierley Hill found the net. Goal given to our disbelieve. 4-3 with 8 minutes to go.

Both teams continued to go for it, end to end with Brierley leaving gaps at the back as they chased the game before a quick break away saw Callum beat the offside to round the keeper an fire home to make it 5-3. Again Brierley Hill didn’t give in and a goal line clearance and good defending to the end meant Living Hope had won.
Ft 5-3
Brierley Hill is always a tough game and they never gave in today, even at 3-0 down we knew they could find a way back. A great game to be involved in between 2 teams who didn’t want to lose. But we came out on top, well done to all the lads, we battled hard and deserved the win.

Brierley Hill are a credit to the league and it’s always a pleasure to play against their lads, win lose or draw and we wish them the best with their remaining games. Thanks to the ref and linesman who controlled the game well overall.
