A convincing first win – our first in over twelve months, for the new look LHC.  A Ben Berrows hat trick plus goals from Pete Falconer and Callum Oakshott ensured a tidy score line for us.

It wasn’t easy, for fifteen minutes we battered at POR’s goal without success. POR battled hard and defended stoutly and out of the blue a sharp counter attack saw us give away a penalty after keeper Carl blocked their strikers run into the box.  If anyone thought the old LHC was returning our thoughts were quickly dispelled as Carl got down quickly for a smart save.

Our first goal was a beauty.  Good work down the right from Martin Woodhall saw  a great cross from half way. The cross was inch perfect to find Ben on the edge of the area with a diving header over the head of the advancing keeper into an empty net. Within a minute it was two.  This time it was Gregg on the right flank whose cross was only parried by the keeper into the path of Pete Falconer for a simple tap in.   The third just before half time was another right wing cross this time from left back Chris Webb – what he was doing there I will never know! Chris’s cross found Ben who scored with another headed goal.

The second half  seemed quiet compared to the first. LHC dominated but had to play second fiddle at times as POR tried to play themselves back into the game but a handful of good blocks from Carl and a shot that hit the woodwork ensured a LHC clean sheet.

Our last two goals came in the last quarter and this time both were provided down the left.  First Josh slotted a ball through to Ben who made no mistake for his third with a fine change of direction that turned his marker before shooting low past the keeper. LHC then signed off their  fifth  when Craig dribbled along the goal line into the area before cutting the ball back to Callum who had all the time in the world to pick his spot.

All in all a good day for LHC. A good confidence booster and its really really great to be winning at long last!
