Rowley 1 City Church 5

“Both teams turned up today low on numbers. City started the better with a couple of early well worked chances but the first goal came when Yeo ran on to an Atkins through ball. The keeper saved the first shot but Yeo dispatched the rebound. The second came midway through the half when Atkins cushioned a header into the path of Yeo to clinically finish for his second.

The wind picked up in the second half and on an already heavy pitch both sides struggled to get the ball down and play football. City went further ahead when after a scramble in the box it fell to Hunter to finish from six yards out. Rowley showed a good attitude and kept battling and got their reward, a typical Micklewright goal with a good first touch and finish. City came straight back and scored again from Yeo after an unselfish pass from Atkins. Yeo scored his fourth late on and City should probably have scored after some good work down the right from substitute Steve Richardson who had a great impact.

All in all a workman like performance from City and a good defensive display. Obviously stand out performances from Yeo and Atkins up front but Special mention to Charlie Dyke who played his last game for us before moving away. He has probably been our best defender this season so it will be a big loss but we wish him all the best in his new career. Man of the match has to go to Atkins who didn’t score but his distribution
and work-rate were fantastic today. Big test for us next week against title contenders Sheldon.”
