Rowley 3 Halesowen 4

Halesowen are fast becoming our bogey team. Last season they took four points from us with last minute goals home and away. Today I thought we’d given some back when we equalised (for the third time) with less than five minutes to go only for Dave’s boys to steal it with a cracking dipping 25 yarder. This was moments after I’d turned to Mike and suggested that neither side had done enough to win the game. Mike’s reply was pertinent: “No” he said “but that doesn’t mean that one of them won’t!”
We were a little short today. Old boy Nathan Wilkins came along to watch and was pressed into action as an emergency signing (and did extremely well). We were also a little off colour against a well organised Halesowen side. First half though we started well and had missed a couple of decent chances before Halesowen were given a head start by way of a penalty (which young Tom obviously dispatched). There followed, for most of the game, a bizarre state of affairs where we were both fairly comfortable but also losing the game! This was certainly how the first half ended, though a farcical mix up in their defence did let Sammy in for the equaliser just before the break.
We started the second half in a 4-4-2 formation and with renewed energy and both teams made an effort to win the game though with little success. We were able to welcome back Ben Fowler and Alan Micklewright before the game sprang into life in the last quarter. As with each game we’ve played this season, this was tight and might have gone either way. We first conceded from a header following a free kick, then equalised when Sammy headed on Alan’s corner and Christie nodded in. Cue end to end. Free kick to them: Lee saves but they’re quickest: 3-2. Last ten: Alan has an overhead kick saved then another defensive lapse and Ben gets in to score another equaliser. No time left or so it seemed!
Good luck to Halesowen: a good bunch of lads!
