Saturday saw the beginning of Wednesbury Baptist’s first ever football league campaign, which unfortunately did not start too well as we found ourselves 1-0 down within the first 10 minutes after a free kick was put into the top corner by the Saint Michael number 7. This seemed to wake us up as from that moment on we then peppered their goal with endless shots and had more than enough opportunities to have won the game comfortably but as we know in this game you have to take your chances but no matter how many different players tried we could not find our scoring boots.
10 minutes from half time however we managed to carve open their defence once again and this time Pete made no mistake in finding the net, this seemed to knock the Saint Michael lads as they then struggled to even touch the ball before half time with their keeper making some fantastic saves and showing no concern for his own well being as he dived at players feet to smother the ball.
Half time then was upon us with the score 1-1. The team talk was pretty much a straightforward keep plugging away and the chances will come. The second half ensued and the chances were coming thick and fast as predicted in the half time team talk but we could not by any means find a way past their keeper who was superb (we even tried playing with 3 strikers)
All in all a good competitive challenge for us in our first game and the lads worked off some of the rust in what was for some the first game they had played in months, all the best to Saint Michael for the season ahead and a big thank you to the officials today as without these we would not be able to play at all
Now onto our midweek game against Corinthians SK
