Report From St Thomas Aldridge
The opening exchanges were fairly even with Mark Roadway making a smart save and we then missed an open goal.We went ahead on 25 minutes following a goalkeeping error, Tommy Wright claiming the ball had touched his laces-typical striker. Marc Tandy increased our lead on 30 minutes with a good finish after excellent work by Adam Shorto. We then spurned 3 simple chance and paid the price on 40 minutes when Sandwell, who had never given up and kept battling away, scored and added another on the stroke of half time through sloppy defending. Sandwell dominated the game after half time and deservedly took the lead on 60 minutes .Mark Roadway kept us in it with some good saves but after having a player sent off on 70 minutes as frequently happens we started to play some decent football. Whilst Roadway continued to make further good saves we somehow managed to miss 3 one on ones in the last 5 minutes. Well done Sandwell who have had a tough time having lost so many players. Special praise to Mark Roadway, our regular center back, who acquitted himself admirably as an emergency keeper and to a half fit Tommy Wright, his first game for 4 weeks due to have knee surgery shortly who played the whole game and led the line superbly.
One of the basic football commandments says if you dont take your chances you get nothing, we got nothing!!!!
Our pre Christmas fixtures look particularly challenging and it is time for everyone to step up to the plate
