Sandwell United 1 – Wednesbury Baptist 7

18th October

Saturday saw us come against Sandwell for the second time this season, the first meeting between us finishing 8-0 meant we had to ensure the team did not go into this game thinking it would be an easy three points – this was exactly the case as Sandwell turned up with an almost completely different team.

The game began with both sides defending well and thwarting each others attempts to break the deadlock, this continued for the opening 10-15 minutes until Pete found himself in space on the edge of the box to smash home the opener 1-0. Some last ditch defending from Sandwell prevented us from extending our lead further before they caught us on the counter attack where their lively striker evened the scores, 1-1. On the stroke of half time we got retook the lead after a good run from Robbie down the right wing, who crossed into the box where Craig laid off Pete for his 2nd of the game, Half Time 2-1.

The second half started more positively on our behalf has it wasnt long before we extended our lead with Paul getting on the score sheet – both of his goals for us coming against the same opposition- with a well taken volley. Pete then completed his hat trick shortly after which appeared to take the wind out of the Sandwell sails 4-1. This was then made worse for Sandwell as one of their players was sent off. Credit to Sandwell’s striker has to be given has he then sacrified himself to come and play centre half, a sign of a true team player. The introduction of the returning and reliable Karl gave the Sandwell defence something new to think about and it wasnt long til he had assisted Craig and scored himself taking the scoreline to 6-1. The final goal come from Pete who scored his 4th of the game giving us a very good looking 7-1 scoreline.
