A cracking game with a ground hopper who came to watch stating that this was the best game he had seen this season. Just like last week LHC spent a lot of time defending. Sandwell were well drilled and they impressed with their attacking flair. Sandwell hadn’t counted on LHC’s resolute defence though and despite being on the backfoot we still enjoyed some decent chances. We finally caught Sandwell on the hop when Daz Carter found Ben with a perfect long ball out of defence. Ben slipping his marker
before taking aim to slot home against the advancing keeper. It was against the run of play but this game is all about taking your chances – take a bow Ben Berrows!
The start of the second half saw us stretch our lead. Darius intercepted a poorly struck goal kick knocking the ball down to Ben who spotted Lewis making a smart run into the box. Good quick thinking saw Ben supply a simple pass for Lewis to run on to and he made no mistake with the finish.
Sandwell weren’t going to take this without a fight and they upped their game. Inexplicably LHC temporarily imploded and 10 minutes of madness ocurred that saw us give two free kicks and a penalty away and suddenly we were 3-2 down. Living Hope rallied though and kept on battling. It was looking an impossibility to get back into the game the way Sandwell were playing but then with just ten minutes left the lads suddenly became aware that Sandwell were tiring. Their midfielders weren’t tracking back any more and gaps were appearing at the back. LHC pressed on and were elated to get a bizarre equaliser. A long throw into the box saw a Sandwell defender misjudge the bounce of the ball and back headed the ball over his keeper into his own net. In injury time Connor fluffed his lines by heading against the crossbar with the goal at his mercy then Sandwell hit the bar with seconds remaining.
A great game, Sandwell looked good but they didn’t battle as well as we did.
