Selly Oak 0 Charlemont Star 5

By Andy Wilcoxson

We travelled over to Rowheath Pavillion today for our first ever encounter with Selly Oak.

We were conscious that Selly Oak had beaten Rockmount last weekend, and that we needed to start well and not underestimate our opponents. The lads got off to a good start with Stuart Smith scoring the opener on 10 minutes assisted by a defence splitting pass from Jamie Holder, 1-0. Selly Oak caused us problems defensively which this week we managed to get away with. Then on 20 minutes, we capitalized on this when Jamie Holder squared a ball across the penalty area for Danny Wood to pass the ball into the back of the net, 2-0. On 28 minutes Jamie Holder turned provider to goal scorer by slotting home past the keeper from a Tom Slater through ball, 3-0 at half time.

The second half started in a similar fashion to the first half with both teams struggling to retain possession on a pitch which was now cutting up and very bobbly. On 61 minutes Rory Taylor launched a defence splitting diagonal ball to Jamie Holder who beat the on rushing keeper, 4-0. All credit to Selly Oak who continued to probe looking for a goal, but it wasn’t going to be their day in front of goal, we’ve all had those days!

Our first substitution on 72 minutes saw Danny Wood replaced by Jake Henson. On 74 minutes Jamie Holder completed his first hat trick of the season by rounding the Selly Oak keeper and tapping home from close range, assisted by a pass from Stuart Smith, 5-0. We used our final two substitutions on 76 & 84 minutes with Aidan Hackwood and Luke Ridout replacing Bradley Tiernan and James Wood respectively.

A man of the match performance from Jamie Holder who was involved in all of our 5 goals today, and our second clean sheet on the bounce. Well done to our referee Mark Davies and good luck to Rob and his team for the rest of the season.

Next week we host Connect Sports.
