Following the disappointment of the opening game defeat to Halesowen Zion, St.T’s faced a tricky away fixture against Sheldon. Both fixtures from the previous season had been hard fought affairs where arguably St.T’s were unfortunate not to have taken something from each fixture losing 6-4 in the home game & 4-3 in the away game. Due to injuries & players missing, St.T’s set up for the first time ever using a 5-3-2 formation that employed wingbacks. This meant for the first time in a long time they played using two strikers, hoping to cause the opposition defence a few problems. It was a game of chances made vs chances converted with both teams creating an equal number of good goalscoring opportunities, the difference being that Sheldon were clinical in converting their chances into goals whereas St.T’s were left to rue a hatful of missed opportunities. Well done to Sheldon & heres wishing them good luck for the season ahead. This game was further proof of the famous addage that “Goals Win Matches”.
