St Mary’s 5 v 0 Wolverhampton and Perton Churches

22nd November

After a week of almost solid rain I was a bit dubious whether the match would be on, but our pitch held up well after a bit of broom and garden fork work… The first 20-25 minutes were quite sedate with us probing and Wolves breaking and having a good chance off a set piece. We worked the ball around well but Wolves were solid and their left winger ran with the ball well.

The game changed when Coleman hit a fantastic first time effort over the keeper from 30 yards. Harris then rifled in from the edge of the area, and then within 5 minutes it was 3 following a fantastic interchange with Sheward at the beginning and end.

Following that mad 5 minutes we continued to be on top and got the fourth before half time when Davis poked in following a free kick and a ‘dubious’ challenge on the keeper. HT 4-0

We started the 2nd half at a slower pace and Lutwyche had to be alert to clear a long clearance ahead of their striker. We were largely on top but didn’t score again until around 70 minutes when Wiedeman lashed into the corner. A good result and onto next week!

Apologies to Neil that I forgot to answer his question last week. I agree that I would rather have a quality keeper, we all know how hard it is to get someone to play in goal and we are lucky to have Phil every week! Goals can come from all over the pitch and it is better to spread them around than rely on one player anyway.
