St Thomas’ Aldridge 0 v 6 St Mary’s

27th September

As always both teams were pumped up for the Aldridge Derby. We started strongly exerting pressure on the St Thomas goal and forcing a number of corners but failing to score. St T’s then got going and forced us back creating a much more even contest. We eventually took the lead when Weideman got to a through ball before the St Thomas keeper and helped it into the net. (Apologies if I get some of these goals in the wrong order as I am writing this on Wednesday night…) but then Coleman curled in a great free kick following a foul on Locke, and Weideman took down a throw into the box and smashed it in. The second half continued as the first with St Thomas more than contributing to the game and playing some nice football. They had a chance to get a goal back when Tommy Wright was brought down for what we thought was a ‘soft’ penalty, however Lutwyche pulled of a fantastic diving save from the resulting penalty. This, along with 3 substitutions just prior to the penalty seemed to kick us into gear and we controlled the rest of the match with Locke finishing following a nice move and Weideman adding two more good finishes.
A good result to set us up for Clarendon on Saturday!
