This morning we travelled to Streetly to take on St Thomas Aldridge. We had played St Thomas Aldridge at the beginning of October with the game ending in a 3-3 draw, so we knew it was going to be a tough test for us. The pitch was in very good condition considering the amount of rain which had fallen in the last 24 hours.
We started the game on the front foot and took an early lead when on 6 minutes Danny Wood firmly heading home, from a cross from Danny Holland, 1-0. Both teams were looking to find their rhythm and credit to St Thomas they created the better chances, and deservedly equalised on 33 minutes with Josh Chell narrowly avoiding clearing the ball before it crossed the line, 1-1.
The second half was similar to the first with both teams probing trying to take the initiative. On 61 minutes, a low crossed ball in from Jamie Holder from the left hand side caused a fumble from the St Thomas keeper for Lewis Cox to stab the ball home from close range, 1-2. Star keeper had made a string of decent saves which kept us in the game.
Four minutes later we extended our lead with the unpredictable but ever dangerous Jamie Holder cutting in from the left hand side striking a thunderbolt of a right footed shot into the top corner giving the keeper no chance, 1-3. St Thomas continued to cause us problems; with Allan Wilde tipping over the bar a goal bound effort with 15 minutes to go. We held on for a valuable 3 points, and entertain Zion Athletic next weekend at Hydes Road.
Thanks to the officials and good luck to Steve and his lads for the rest of the season.
