St Thomas’ Aldridge 2 Halesowen Zion 6

We had two players crying off less than an hour before kick off and had to call upon the services of our magnificent Clubman Mark Roadway -who had retired at the end of last season- at very short notice who despite nursing an injury played the whole game.Similarly Mark Sherrif came along as substitute despite being only partially recovered from a long term injury.we started well and took the lead on 10 minutes with a fine goal from Adam Shorto following an excellent pass from Luke Helsdon.Zion then proceeded to control the game missing several chance before equalising with a fine strike on 40 minutes and adding a second on the stroke of halftime..Our visitors made it 3-1 on 53 minutes but a fine individual on 61 minutes from Tommy Wright got us back in the game. However ,Halesowen quickly made it four and really made their quality and experience tell with two further goals to seal an emphatic and deserved victory. We had five youngsters playing today who have just stepped up from youth football for whom this was a baptism of fire against an excellent Halesowen team.-we wish Dave and his lads all the best for the season.
