We lined up against a strengthened Corinthians team today whilst we ourselves had half of our 11 missing from the previous 4-1 win which showed early on has for several players this was either their first start, playing out of position or both with Corinthians controlling the game. Corinthians took the lead early on with an unstoppable finish from their lively number 11. A second followed from a corner and it seemed like the floodgates were going to open, however we then got our selves settled which resulted in some good pressure from ourselves and a sustained period of time in the opposition half. A corner ensued and Gregg made no mistake volleying the ball into the back of the empty net after the keeper came for the ball and missed it, 1-2. The deficit was soon restored to 2 when our keeper had one those nightmare moments allowing the ball to go between his legs, 1-3. Our team rallied together though and managed to score on the brink of half time through Pete to go in at 2-3 down.
A quick team talk ensued but it was clear to see that our heads had not dropped but we were forced into a change due to injury. The game restated and it was pretty much dejavu of the first as Corinthians found themselves with more than a fair share of possession and continously were applying pressure onto our makeshift back four with long balls over the top which resulted in them once again giving us a two goal deficit to make up.
Not willing to give up just yet we made a double change and changed to a more attacking formation which paid dividends has this extra pressure and presence in midfield meant we started controlling the game and creating a lot more chances, without creating chances you cannot take them so this was pleasing to see. Sub Karl began our comeback with a poachers finish in the 18 yard box before their keeper saw red for foul and abusive language after mishitting a goal kick. This was the catalyst to us pushing on further for what seemed to be the elusive fourth goal to level up the game. That was until ‘Tino’ weaved his magic for the second consecutive game and dribbled his way into the box before beating the keeper at his near post. We may have only drawn the game but the fact we were 2 goals behind 3 times in the game it felt like a win to us, also if someone had offered me the four points against a team as good as Corinthians SK I would have snatched their hand off there and now.
All the best to Corinthians for the rest of the season and as always a huge appreciation to the officials!!
