Wednesbury Baptist 8 – Sandwell United 0

Wednesday night saw our second and final midweek game of what has been an hectic schedule of games having played 4 games in 11 days.

We started in the same manner that we ended on the weekend threatening with every attack, Sandwell themselves had their chances in the opening exchanges also with our keeper having to make a good one on one save from their lively number 10 up top and a fine fingertip save to tip a shot over the bar. The deadlock was finally broken on the half hour mark when Nick played a Gerrard-esque through ball with the outside of his boot to Mart which sent him racing through onto the perfectly weighted ball, finishing low past the keeper at his near post. The floodgates were now open as we got our heads up after endless missed chances previously and Nick scored one of the goals of the night has he curled the ball into the top right corner from the corner of the 18 yard box. Pete then got himself on the scoresheet with an unstoppable finish into the bottom left corner. Mart and Pete then went on to get their second goals before the first half was called to a halt. Half time 5-0.
The second half continued in the same vein with us pushing forward in numbers and not letting up, we got our reward for our hard work and determination when Nick caught a sweet half volley to increase our lead to 6 with the first few minutes before Pete capped off his hat trick in style by skipping past 2 defenders, taking on the keeper twice before audaciously chipping the ball over him (another goal of the night contender). Due to the amount of games in a short period of time we utilised our bench and it paid dividends when Paul scored a 25 yarder which left the keeper routed to the spot (the final contender for goal of the night). The light was now starting to deteriorate and so did the energy in the game has the time ran down and legs became heavy from all the football played. All in all a great result for ourselves against another of the relegated teams from last seasons Div 1. Final Score 8-0.
A big thank you to all the officials today who were fantastic in controlling the game and allowed it to flow effectively.
