This match may have ended 0 v 6 but anyone who watched the first 20 minutes would have been very surprised at the score. Luckily we can be very stubborn about conceding and withstood Wolves pressure before taking 3 chances in the space of 10 minutes. Firstly an excellent corner from Harris was headed (just) across the line by Weideman and the goal was correctly given by the linesman (I was a yard away and it was definitely in). The second goal was almost identical other than it was a Green corner form the other side and then for the third we finally got the ball down and good work from Locke left Weideman to chip in a great finish for his Hatrick. We got a fourth before half time, another Wiedeman header to effectively kill the game off… however Wolves had other ideas and pushed throughout the 2nd half.
Again we scored to settle things with another Weideman header for his 5th whilst Wolves went close to a consolation a number of times as we consolidated. The final goal came when after good work down the left from Wiedeman he found Locke with a whipped cross who readjusted and placed the ball in past the keeper. Wolves continued to press, but Rudd came close for us number of times particularly with a ‘Scholsey’ volley which whistled past the post following a lay off.
This was a perfect preparation for the cup final and sets us up for our final two league games.
