2 hatricks in 1 game
By Phil Deeley
In a game today that saw Zion City dominate possession and resolute defending and a Man of the Match performance from Matt Coley, we were very relaxed through the whole game and when we attacked attacked with pace and accuracy. In the first half I think we only had 3 shots which led us to being 2-0 at half time. The first was from Leon Naylor linking up with Mark Hingley and drawing a foul in the box, Leon as always punishing from the spot. Zion City still kept pushing with no reward. 10 minutes after the penalty we started to get the ball more at the top of the pitch with, Jake, Mark and Leon all interlink and find space we found it with all 3 working and Leon again driving on the box and rolling the ball the side of the keeper. Mark Hingley should have got his season underway but a brilliant save from the City keeper.
Second half and down the slope meant we had more possession and created a lot more chances but the City defence and midfield made us have to work hard. Mark finally getting his first of the season with a left foot riffle from a good angle that had been created by Jake. City pushed back and never then gave up after a corner that was well saved by Jim Gray and not cleared City got 1 back. Leon rounded off his hatrick where he picked the ball up from the edge of the centre circle and drove and dispatched clinically (5 goals in 2 games). City were pushing but contained to shooting from distance, the ref awarded a penalty from a handball, Jim Gray made a save with his feet. We continued to create chances with Pete Hingley hitting the post and other squandered chances but Mark Hingley got another 2 goals all with his left foot to round off a brilliant performance for his first hatrick for Zion Athletic. Well done to the lads today and Zion City for making an entertaining game and working us hard.
