This was a must win game for Pye Green Towers in their quest to become Division Three champions.
Zion City suffered a set back just before kick off when their inspirational keeper was unable to play. Straight from the kick off Zion got into their stride, putting pressure on Pye Green’s back line.
Zion City were dominating the midfield, with Michael Reid’ influential on the left wing and it was his vision that opened up Pye Greens defence after 20mins. He took a throw in, got the return, beat the full back, squared the ball and Amrik Sanghera hit a low shot from about 10 yards into the far corner net. 5 mins later Ben Wilkes went on a run down the right wing, crossed, and Baz Jarrett hit a shot over the bar. (HT 1-0 to Zion)
The second half had Pye Green piling on the pressure without troubling Zion’s stand in keeper. Zion continued to create chances. Tom Queensborough struck a shot and a header pass the post.
From a Zion corner, Pye Green broke away and scored at the other end. Far from being demoralised Zion continued to press but were dealt a blow when Ben Wilkes was sent off following a second yellow card.
With Baz carrying an injury, things looked bad for Zion, but with 10mins to go Daniel played the ball to Baz , who played to Tom who came through on a 2nd goal for Zion, as he raced into the box and beat the keeper at his near post. Pye Green piled on the pressure but Zion held on for a battling victory.
What a season it has been for Zion. 4th place and semi-final of the division cup. All the best lads. Your hard work and determination has shown through.
