16th April – 2 Notices + Review

Before we move on to football issues Club Secretaries and Match Officials have been informed that there is to be a One Minutes Silence before all of our matches tomorrow, the day of The Prince Phillip, The Duke Of Edinburgh’s Funeral.

Moving on to football stuff and the first point to start off with is to inform you that No Changing Rooms Are In Use At Any of our matches tomorrow.

Starting off in Division Two for a change and Monyhull Church maintained their 100 per cent record with a 3-1 win over Delph Athletic and have opened up an impressive 5 point gap on their nearest rivals. However, these gaps can easily be chased down and with 3 teams in this pack Monyhull Church need to remain focused on the task in hand especially as St Thomas’ Aldridge who are their opponents tomorrow might have hit some form as the season restarted last week with a very convincing 5-1 win away to Brierley Hill A.O.G, (a score that I correctly predicted but more on that later). Should St Thomas’ follow up that fine result against Monyhull then Christ Church Coseley and Selly Oak Methodist will both be looking to gain some ground but will they be all attack minded or adopt a safety first approach? The stand out result for me last week was Dudley Lions beating Christ Church Coseley 4-2 away from home with Dan Douse bagging a hat-trick. I really did not see that coming but it’s a result that Dudley will be looking to build on and they might just fancy their chances against a Delph Athletic side who be looking to improve on their defeat last week. There now remains only one team who have yet to taste victory this season with Brierley Hill A.O.G looking to do just this against Living Hope Church United. Both teams concede goals but the attacks, especially Brierley Hills, cannot counter what is happening at the other end of the pitch. Hunch Time Maybe?

Like Monyhull Church, St Andrews’ Netherton have put themselves in a good position beating Chawn Hill Church 4-0 but Dave did state it was a closer game than the score showed. It does mean that they now have a 6 point gap on their nearest challengers, Clarendon. But Clarendon do have a game in hand and many many times over the years Clarendon have had this situation and many times they have come through the test to be Champions. They have really got to be at their best though because if they lose this one I reckon I could be calling St Andrews’ ‘Champions Elect.’  Clarendon came from 2-0 down to beat City Church who despite playing well ended up with nothing to show for their efforts. They will be looking to change this when they face Charlemont Star who themselves lost to Rowley College 2-1, (another correct score for me). Should Charlemont Star lose to City Church then Rowley will be looking to add to their only victory so far and move off the bottom, but they come up against a wounded Chawn Hill Church.

For once, last weeks Prediction Challenge against Andy Wilcoxson went well for me predicting 2 correct scores and getting 5 out of 7 forecasts correct. Andy managed a creditable 4 correct forecasts but didn’t manage any correct scores. So for last week it’s Andy 4 Neil 9. (I will do an update on the Prediction Challenge scores for the matches in October over this weekend).

Thanks to Steve Helsdon from St Thomas; Aldridge for being this weeks Prediction Challenger. So, my review above didn’t state any winners or losers, have I gone for 7 draws then? See below. As always, stay safe and maintain the Covid restrictions that are in place. We have finally got our football back, let’s do our best to keep it that way.
