Just a very quick word about last weeks matches and tomorrows games. (Lack of time and Dad’s Taxi at 11pm plus no intention of staying up into the early hours).
St Andrews’ Netherton march onwards towards the title after beating Clarendon 3-2 last week. It would appear to have been a good game according to the Match Report. It would take a slip of Devon Loch magnitude for them to now not win the League. They face Charlemont Star and this will be another 3 points for St Andrews’. Charlemont fared better than I thought last week only losing by the odd goal to City Church, whereas I predicted it to be more. I think they will be busier in defence this week.
City Church moved into 2nd place with their 2-1 win and will be looking to hold onto that spot as they face a Rowley College side who are struggling for goals. It’s between them and Charlemont for me, as to who ends up bottom. I just have a sneaky hunch that Rowley will get something from this.
Chawn Hill Church vs Clarendon, well, these 2 teams are the most decorated within our League and now the ‘So Called Super 6’ English teams have decided not to join the ESL, I am left wondering when their phones will be ringing asking them to join. Seriously though, both teams on their day still play some quality football. With Connect Sports not rejoining I thought these 2 would be the next best challengers. This is a tough one to call!
I believe if i rush to get this done before being ‘Dad’s Taxi’ it would be a disservice to Division 2. So even though I did state above that I had no intention of bashing the keyboards in the early hours, it looks like this is what I will be doing. So, catch up late on or in the morning when my thoughts on Division 2 will be revealed and hopefully this weeks Prediction Challenge will be done.
Past midnight, but here we go with Division Two.
Whilst Monyhull Church look good for the Division Two Title, I think it’s worth bearing in mind that for most of the teams in this Division tomorrows/today’s matches mark the half way point of the season. So there is all to play for still.
Monyhull come up against a Christ Church Coseley side who appear to be struggling to find any regular form but on their day cannot easily be discounted. If they want to make a challenge then I believe it must start today. They will have been disappointed to lose to current 2nd placed Selly Oak Methodist last week and really need to be firing against Monyhull, who themselves has a good win over St Thomas’ Aldridge. I see this being won by an odd goal.
I thought Brierley Hill A.O.G might bag their first win last week and after 70 minutes they were leading 1-0. However, a Man Of The Match performance from Ryan Roberts who came on a substitute totally changed that with the score ending up 3-1 to Living Hope Church United. As ever, I queried the MOTM award as it was given to a player who had only participated for 20 minutes. But Ian from The Hill said he absolutely bossed the game when he came on. (I wonder if he will be in the starting 11 this week). Ian’s lads come up against Selly Oak Methodist and I don’t believe they will get anything off them.
If Dudley Lions can put a few wins together they could put pressure on the top sides. But a defeat will give the teams below them chance to catch up. Surprisingly, there is not much between most sides. A few wins would make a massive difference. Indeed, Living Hope, Dudley Lions opposition have only won 1 less game than Dudley. But I’m tipping a Dudley win.
Delph Athletic host St Thomas’ Aldridge with both teams, like Living Hope, just a couple of wins shy of the table looking totally different. I thought both teams would be better placed than they currently are and am unsure on who might win this. No hunches played on this one, just sitting on the fence and going for a draw.
So, that’s the review and preview. When I get back into the swing of things I will try and do the review on a Sunday including any Match Reports sent in. I will also try and do the preview earlier, but as things stand at the moment it’s just a case of doing things when I can. Dependent on how quickly stuff is reported to me following the matches late today will also depend on the site being updated. I will be implementing an early cut off time beginning this week.
On to the Prediction Challenge and absolutely no idea how it went last week as I’ve not had chance to look. Again, this will be updated/reviewed this Sunday.
Thanks to Rob O’Neil from Selly Oak Methodist for doing this week entry.
