25th October Div 1+2 Preview

Having just updated the Player Registrations and then compiling my review of the First Round of the Cup time is against me once again, (currently 12.30 in the morning). So it’s either a review of last weeks games or my predictions for the games to be played later today. Well, I can catch up with my review later on but I’m sure some of you look for my forecasts each week aiming to shoot me down so that’s what I’ve opted for.

In alphabetical order in Division 1 it’s Connect Sports vs Chawn Hill Church. Connect have started the season impressively, as I thought they would, and i reckon that losing the title to Chawn last season actually helped them in the long run. It has hardened them up so that they know they must focus on every game, something I believe cost them the title last season. I really cannot see Chawn getting anything from this game and anticipate a minimum of a 3 goal winning margin for Connect.

Pete Bennett’s match report last week stated that you do not get many 0-0 scorelines in our level of football but I’m tempted to go for one here. Both teams are quite good defensively and whilst one of them may nick it I’m sticking with a 0-0 prediction.

Clarendon host St Mary’s in what could be a pointer towards their 2nd Round Cup Tie. Current League Champions St Mary’s have started the season off well but unlike last season, so have Clarendon with them both having almost identical records. Can titles be won and lost this early in the season? Well you may not win 1 but you could certainly lose 1 so this is a massive game for me. I could sit on the fence for this 1 but it’s not my style so I’m going for a St Mary’s win.

2 teams who thumped in 21 goals between them last week face each other with Zion Athletic, (10 goals), facing Sheldon, (11 goals). So what are the odds on a 0-0 here? Absolutely none for me! Sheldon’s defence will be a tougher nut to crack for Zion and whilst Zion scored 10 they still conceded 4. Whereas, Sheldon were rampant against Chawn and their tight defence kept a clean sheet. This for me is where the game will be won with Sheldons defence fairing the better. So it’s a Sheldon win for me.

St Thomas’ Aldridge host promoted Wolverhampton and Perton who have settled in nicely back in the top flight. It looks like another tough season for the lads from Aldridge and I think Wolverhampton will be travelling back home with all 3 points here.

The last game in Division 1 sees Halesowen Zion playing City Church, who sit at the bottom of the table whereas Halesowen are 6th. Looking at the goals scored for City doesn’t give me any confidence that they will pick anything up from this game so it’s a Halesowen Zion win for me.

(Time for some sleep…all being well I will do Div 2 early in the morning)

Morning Folks!

In Division 2 Brierley Hill AOG take on Maple Leaf Rovers QMC at South Rd. The Hill old boys appear to be having a hard time of it so far this season whereas, like last season, Maple Leaf have started quite well. It’s 3 more points for the Maple Leaf lads for me here.

Pye Green travel to face Corinthians SK. Last season I would have easily predicted a Pye Green win but they do not appear to be the same force that they were then. They have very similar records but with Corinthians scoring slightly more per game leans me towards them. So I’m going for them to win.

Monyhull Church face Saint Michael who last week failed to play their game due to having no kit, etc. Organisation is a key thing in football and having 1 person who does everything can lead to problems like Saint Michael had last week. Maybe, (definitely in my mind), players should help out more with the running of a Club and not just leave it to one person. (This applies to plenty of Clubs in the League). So Saint Michael lost last week without even playing but today sees them face an improving Monyhull Church team. Both teams are so far fairly tight in defence this season whilst not banging in loads of goals. Although Monyhull did smash 6 past Chawn in the Cup so the capability is there. I’m going to go with Monyhull on this one if only for the reason that they have the confidence factor about them at the moment.

Rockmount United vs Renewal Solihull is next for me to ponder upon. I fancied Solihull to be in the top 2 come seasons end before it started but to do so they must overcome tough opposition like Rockmount whose attacking strength will definitely test Solihull’s defence. A tight win for the Renewal boys.

High flying Wednesbury Baptist play Hawbush who appear to have a little more about them this season. Having said that though, I cannot see them holding back the tides of attacking play that will come from Wednesbury and expect them to be given a hard game today. I’m anticipating Wednesbury massively improving their goal difference today with at least a 6 goal difference between the teams.

Dudley Lions travel to face Selly Oak in what may be a tighter game than first meets the eye. Selly Oak really need to tighten up at the back otherwise It will be a long season for them and once you go into freefall, even at this level, it’s hard to turn it around. Dudley Lions will know how Selly Oak feel having had it hard themselves in the past but they are massively improved on seasons past. I think this will be a tight match with maybe Dudley just edging it.

As stated previously, when you are in freefall it’s hard to turn it around and Sandwell United have been in freefall for a good while now. But you have to show these lads respect, they turn up every week and give of their best. You can ask no more than that. Sometimes the changing room is a funnier place to be with teams that are struggling, just playing football for the sheer exhilaration of it. Today sees them face another massive challenge in Zion City. This is going to be one heck of a challenge for them! Zion City are fast and fluid so a well drilled defensive line of 2 banks of 4 is how I expect Sandwell to start, but It won’t be enough! If Sandwell can keep this down to a 5 goal defeat I think the lads who pop into the pub afterwards will have earned their pint.

So here we go again, my predictions so far are just about in the positive area, I’m hoping for at least 10 out of 13 today, there are some that have been hard to call, have a go yourself on a piece of paper and see how you fare 😉
