2nd October

Well we have completed our first month of the season and I hope you are all enjoying the Kovacs’ versus Club Secretaries Prediction Challenge. (I hope some of you may have taken it on board within your own Club). Anyway 4 weeks into the season and it’s 2 weeks to me and 2 weeks to the Club Secs. The Club Secs have though forecast more correct predictions whereas I have managed to get more correct scores. Here is the table so far following last weekends games:

Matches Correct Correct Total
Forecast Prediction Score Points
Kovacs’ Kolumn 44 19 4 27
Club Secretaries 44 22 1 24
Individual Club Secs
Pete (Rowley) 12 7 0 7
Ian (B’Hill) 9 4 0 4
Andy (Charlemont) 11 5 1 7
Andres (Maple Leaf) 12 6 0 6

So at the moment I hold a slender lead over the Club Secs. Up to do battle for them this week is Brain from Renewal Solihull. Another true character within our League in my eyes. I have been on the touchline at matches with him and looking back over the years at some of the antics and frustrations from both of us on the side brings a massive smile to my face. Just the 8 games for us to have a bash at this weekend due to some of our Clubs playing in their County Cup Competitions. (All the best lads).

For me, the chance for St Mary’s to be back on top of the table after tomorrows games will be incentive enough for them to overcome City Church. Brian has gone for them to score more goals than I have and my initial thought was that they will score 5, but City can be hard to play when they are up for it….will they be so tomorrow?

A huge game between Renewal Solihull and Chawn Hill Church with both teams really needing to get 3 points out of this game. If Chawn lose, they will look like early relegation candidates. Renewal only have the 1 point to show for their efforts this season so the same applies to them as well. It’s hard to pick a winner here, so I haven’t.

Wolverhampton and Perton host Monyhull Church who are finding life tough in the top flight. I’m expecting a close game here as W’ton haven’t been scoring a lot and I’m going with a hunch that Monyhull may just get their first win in Div 1.

Maple Leaf, who sit top of Div 2, have Selly Oak popping over to their pitch who will be buoyed by their first win last weekend. I’m tipping top of the table Maple Leaf to get 3 more points from this game.

Dudley Lions sit joint top on points but come up against a good side in Living Hope Church United. It will be interesting to see how they respond to last weeks 8-1 hammering at the hands of St Matthews. I am going for an away win here.

Hawbush are struggling at the moment and I don’t see things improving so I am going for Sandwell to get a narrow win against them.

Another 2 teams sitting near the bottom of the table are St Thomas’ Aldridge and Brierley Hill AOG. The Aldridge lads are still struggling having lost 3 of their 4 games so far. The Hill lads aren’t doing much better having been beaten in 2 of their 3 matches. This could go any way but it’s a draw for me.

That leaves Corinthians SK vs Zion City as the last match of the week and I really cannot fathom Zion City out at all. Maybe they have the old Keegan approach of just playing entertaining football with the attitude that we will score more than you. Well if it’s goals you want to see, 27 goals in their first 4 matches means there matches are worth watching. Unfortunately, they have let in more than they have scored, 12 for and 15 against. I don’t think this will be a game where loads of goals are scored and I am going for a home win here.

So here are mine and Brians forecasts for tomorrow:

3rd October
Division One     Kovacs’ Ren Sol (Brian)
Renewal Solihull vs Chawn Hill Church Draw 1-1 Home 3-2
St Mary’s vs City Church Home 3-0 Home 5-1
Wolverhampton and Perton vs Monyhull Church Away 1-2 Home 2-1
Division Two
Corinthians S.K. vs Zion City Home 2-1 Draw 2-2
Dudley Lions vs Living Hope Church Away 1-3 Draw 3-3
Hawbush vs Sandwell United Away 1-2 Draw 2-2
Maple Leaf Rovers QMC vs Selly Oak Methodist Home 2-0 Home 4-2
St Thomas’ Aldridge vs Brierley Hill AOG Draw 0-0 Home 4-2

The last few weeks we have managed to get the results on the site within an hour but this may not be the case for the next couple of weeks. I will be at work all day and I am unsure if James has other duties during the day. We will do our utmost to get them updated as quickly as we can.
