His Royal Highness, The Prince Philip, The Duke Of Edinburgh. 1921 – 2021.

As we restart our football season our League will pay tribute to the life of HRH The Duke Of Edinburgh with all matches observing a One Minutes Silence before our matches tomorrow, 10th April, 2021.

Unlike last season, when there was no possibility of resuming the season following the first ‘Lockdown’ we are able to restart our current season. I am glad to say that 14 of the 16 Clubs decided that they wanted to continue with Connect Sports and Saint Michael opting to wait until next season. There really was no right or wrong answer to the above decision with each Clubs membership having different criteria regarding their own individual health risks. I wish both Clubs well for the future. All 8 Clubs in Division 2 are continuing so it’s a simple carry on from before football was stopped. Division 1 has lost 2 Clubs and all results and statistics from their matches have been expunged.

So, onto the football side of things regarding tomorrow’s games.

Table topping St Andrews’ Netherton, host Chawn Hill Church, who really need to get at least a point if not all 3 to keep this Division interesting. I’m not sure they will and I am going for a home win here.

2 teams who will be looking at the above result are both 6 points behind the leaders but both have a game in hand. City Church travel to play Clarendon and the winners may be the best challengers to St Andrews. I’m tipping the team that has been dominant for many years to win this one.

The last match in Division 1 sees the bottom two teams face each other with Rowley College hosting Charlemont Star. Rowley need to win by 7 clear goals to jump off bottom spot and whilst I cannot see that happening, I can see them taking all 3 points to seal their first win of the season.

Another team chasing their first win are Brierley Hill A.O.G and whilst I believe Rowley will win, I don’t feel confident about Brierley Hill’s chances against St Thomas’ Aldridge who don’t seem to have performed as well this season as they did prior to last seasons lockdown. I still believe St Thomas can be better than they have shown so far this season and expect them to win this one.

Monyhull Church, like St Andrews’ Netherton are the only sides with 100 per cent winning records, 4 out of 4. An interesting test for them tomorrow as they play Delph Athletic, who I am led to believe can play some great football when they are at it. I think this could be a great match with a few goals to boot. It’s still a home win for me though with Monyhull continuing their good season.

Dudley Lions travel to face Christ Church Coseley and like Chawn, they really need to get something here otherwise a gap may begin to appear from the top 2. Christ Church will be looking to keep the pressure on Monyhull, especially as they have played a game extra. Home win for me.

The final match in Division 2 sees Selly Oak Methodist host Living Hope Church United, with Selly Oak also needing to win to keep close to the current top 2 teams. Selly Oak need to improve on their goal scoring whilst Living Hope need to be better in defence. I didn’t think there would be many goals in this match but after writing the above I’ve had a change of mind. It’s a score draw for me.

The Prediction Challenge is back and thanks to Andy from Charlemont Star for stepping in at short notice for this weeks forecasts.
