Kovacs’ Kolumn 14th December Preview

St Mary’s face St Thomas’ Aldridge needing a win to keep the pressure on the chasing pack. Last weeks draw was an acceptable result with City Church but knowing that Sheldon have games in hand and can overtake them means that 3 points is a minimum requirement for them this Saturday. St Thomas’ have their own battle trying to pull away from the relegation area. I can’y see anything but a St Mary’s win here.

2nd placed Sheldon are also away to a revitalised Amblecote. This would have been an easy call for Sheldon a few weeks ago but that was then and this is now. The Jadon X-Factor really has me struggling to call this, can 1 player really have such an effect? I went with my hunches last week and they let me down. However. I’m going with the Jadon X-Factor and an Amblecote win.

An easier call for me is an All Saints Olympic win against Halesowen Zion. I saw some of Zions game last week and whilst they bossed the game for the period I was there they had no threat at goal. At any level, no goals means trouble and Halesowen will still be in trouble following this game.

Zion Athletic host Clarendon and whilst Shawn is hopeful that should they win their next 2 games they will be in the hunt at the end of the season, I just can’t see it, especially after what I witnessed last week. In saying that, they have a mean defence only conceding 1 goal per game and winning when you have played poorly is a sign of character. Having said all that, I believe Clarendon are like a wounded tiger and will have Athletic for their prey this week, replacing Zion in 4th place.

City Church take on bottom Club Sandwell United and although I wish Myles and Roy who run Sandwell good fortune, they will still be bottom after this encounter. City to canter to an easy win.

Rowley College play Corinthians SK and I take them to collect all 3 points leaving Corinthians, like Sandwell, preparing for Division 2 next season. Should Rowley win, as I expect, maybe Pete will be able to relax and look upwards rather than at the bottom end of the table.

Chawn Hill Church can go top with a 2 clear goals win over Darkhouse and I take them to do just that. However, if they go into the game in a complacent frame of mind then Darkhouse will make them suffer. They may look near the bottom but in reality there is not much to choose between the teams from Darkhouse upwards.

If Chawn slip up, Renewal Solihull could jump from 4th to the top of the table with a win over Wollaston Free Athletic. I’m going with Solihull to just edge a narrow game.

The 3rd and last game in Division 2 this week sees the bottom 2 teams play each other. With only 1 team being relegated, this really is a big game to win. Selly Oak beat Rockmount in the reverse fixture just a few weeks ago and I tip them to win again. Whilst this is a big game there may be more twists and turns before deciding who goes down.

I expect Maple Leaf Rovers to come back empty handed from their trip to play leaders Pye Green Towers. Maple Leaf have hit a sticky patch and playing Pye Green could not have come at a worse time. For Pye Green, it’s an excellent opportunity to enhance their credentials to be Champions.

With 2nd place Living Hope Church having a free week I can just see Steve Rose from Dudley Lions eyeing up 2nd place with a win against Brierley Hill AOG. I wonder how many times Steve has been on the site this week checking I have forecast them to lose again! Well Steve, my old mate, my forecast is a Dudley Lions win.

Saint Michael had a good win last week and will fancy their chances of yet another win against Hawbush, who suffered a spanking last week. Last weeks defeat will have rocked Hawbush’s young guns confidence and for this reason alone I go with a Saint Michael win.

The last game sees Zion City host Monyhull Church. Like last week, I see Zion City as being just too fast for their opponents on the day and will win this game comfortably.
