Kovacs’ Kolumn 6th March

Firstly, a big thank you to those who still put in match reports. Unfortunately, the number has dwindled and is now just down to a few regulars. Without much information to glean how teams are performing, irrespective of their results, it gives me less idea on how to figure out my predictions and do a review of the previous weeks games. I will carry on regardless until the end of this season then reflect on whether this Kolumn continues or not.

Tomorrow sees the Semi-Finals of the Cup with Rowley College playing last seasons winners Zion Athletic and Wolverhampton and Perton Churches playing St Mary’s. All 4 teams have a chance of being in the Final with each team having its own merits. They have all been in a Cup Final before and I am sure that each and every player will come off the pitch having given his all hoping to be in the Final on April 20th. So who do I reckon will be there on that night? Well I am really struggling with these 2 games, my head saying one thing and my gut feeling saying another….so here we go, I’m going for a Zion Athletic versus Wolverhampton and Perton Churches Final. I think Zion will just have too much for an ageing Rowley but I think some of you will be surprised I haven’t gone for St Mary’s to win the other Semi. This is a gut feeling forecast, I think that St Mary’s haven’t quite been the force they are capable of and have struggled of late. If W’ton play to their max then I reckon they could win this. So there you have it, no doubt there will be 2 sets of players out to prove me wrong!

Only 2 games in Division 1 with City Church playing Chawn Hill Church in a game that Chawn must get some points from. Looking at the games left to play for Rowley and Chawn I would say Rowley have the tougher run in so a win for Chawn would put the pressure back on Rowley. City Church still have a mathematical chance of staying up but to do so they really would need to put a fantastic run together and I really cannot see that happening.

The other game in Division 1 sees St Thomas’ Aldridge hosting Sheldon Community Church. This should be a simple win for Sheldon with them aiming to finish as high as possible. St Thomas’ already know that they are down but I am sure they would like to add to their 1 win this season.

Champions elect Wednesbury Baptist Church need just 4 more points to be crowned Champions but in reality the engraver is getting ready to start putting their name on the Division 3 Trophy. They travel to face Brierley Hill AOG and I would be shocked if they fail to come away with all 3 points and depending on how Monyhull Church fare then they may be Champions tomorrow.

Monyhull face St Michael and this could be a chance for St Michael to close the 5 point gap on their opponents. With 3rd place an automatic promotion spot it’s still all to play for near the top of the table. I reckon St Michael will win this one to keep it interesting at the top end and Wednesbury Baptist can start celebrating.

Corinthians SK play Maple Leaf Rovers QMC in the 3rd game and whilst this would appear to be a run of the mill end of the season game Corinthians still have 7 games and a lot of points to play for. Maple Leaf could probably do with 1 more win to try and end the season mid table. The only thing I am sure about is that there should be goals aplenty in this game with both Clubs scoring and conceding loads! So I’m going for a 5-3 win to Corinthians SK.

The final game sees Sandwell United play host to Selly Oak Methodist. Both Clubs will be looking for maximum points here to try and avoid finishing bottom. Both teams have been impressive lately with them only suffering their first defeat since the New Year last weekend. I’m going to tip Sandwell to win by the odd goal in a tight game, maybe 2-1.
