Kovacs’ Kolumn Is BACK !

Hi Folks,

Well, as the title says, Kovacs’ Kolumn is back albeit a very brief preview of this weeks Cup and League games.

Driving back from work this morning at 7am it was quite foggy but more noticeable was the mist on the fields so I anticipate some excellent playing conditions as our Cup competition starts today. One fixture that was postponed at short notice last night is Clarendon vs Pye Green Towers, something that the Management Committee will have to look into.

This leaves 9 games to be played today in the First Round and I will just do some quick forecasts of these games in alphabetical order.

Firstly, Chawn Hill Church face Monyhull Church. Chawn will fancy there chances here and may already be eyeing up their opponents in the next round. A very dangerous thing to do! If they are focused I expect a Chawn win but Monyhull will not roll over easily, a narrow 2 goals win for Chawn.

Corinthians SK play Charlemont Star, 2 teams who couldn’t be more different. It’s goals galore at Corinthians’ games whereas Charlemont play a tight game so this one is very interesting. Charlemonts defence have done a great job in Division 1 so far but I fancy Corinthians all out attack policy to work in their favour. 2-1 win for Corinthians.

A local derby down at South Rd sees Hawbush play Brierley Hill AOG. Both teams are at the wrong end of the table and I see this being close. In fact, this is my hunch for the day…penalty shoot out with Hawbush going through!

Rowley College travel to Rockmount and this all depends on which Rowley turn up. They will need to be at their best to overcome a stubborn Rockmount. If they are then I see a 2 clear goals win for them. If they don’t turn up then Rockmount have enough about them to win. But I believe it’s Rowley’s to lose.

St Thomas’ Aldridge face Division 2 leaders Wednesbury Baptist Church, not much for me to consider here as I am certain Wednesbury will march through comfortably into the next round.

The next game sees City Church travel to play Sandwell United, the only team not to register a point so far this season. I don’t see the Cup being of any help to them and expect a City Church win.

Likewise I would expect St Mary’s to overcome Selly Oak Methodist in the next tie. The Cup sometimes throws up surprise results but I really cannot see that happening here.

Sheldon vs Renewal Solihull is a game where I can see a Cup upset happening. Solihull are flying at the moment whereas Sheldon still seem to be finding their feet this season. Narrow win for Solihull.

I reckon Zion City vs Dudley Lions has the making of a cracking game of football. Both teams know where the net is so I’m forecasting it to end 0-0. Only joking! I reckon it will be 3-2 but which way? I will go with Dudley Lions.

So that’s the Cup predictions done. Please remember, ties go to extra time and penalties if required. Ties must be decided today.

On to Division One. Connect Sports have started the season tremendously and come up against Halesowen Zion today, who themselves have started quite well. I think Halesowen may be the first team to take a point off Connect. Forecast ….1-1 draw.

Zion Athletic play Wolverhampton & Perton Churches in the other Division 1 game today. I don’t see much between these 2 teams but I will tip Zion to win by the odd goal.

Just the one game in Division 2 with Maple Leaf Rovers QMC travelling to play Saint Michael with only 3 points seperating both teams. Maple Leaf carry the greater goal threat and for this reason i’m tipping them to win.

So that’s it folks. My forecasts are there for the players to look at and prove me wrong, or hopefully for me, prove me right. But please remember..right or wrong, it’s all just my personal view.
