Kovacs’ Kolumn March 15th, 22nd, Preview 29th

Fatherly duties have meant no time to keep Kovacs’ Kolumn as up to date as possible over the last couple of weeks, but the good news is things should be getting back to normal. This column was introduced to add an extra entertainment factor to the site. I hope it is achieving its aim. Remember, these are only my views on things, so please don’t nag the rest of the Committee if you disagree with them.

Firstly, a quick review of the last 2 weeks looking at the main things that have happened. Congratulations to Sheldon and Zion Athletic who won their respective Semi-Finals against Clarendon and All Saints Olympic. This will be Sheldon’s first Cup Final appearance whereas for Zion Athletic it will be their 4th consecutive appearance in the Final. It has the making of a good Final and is to be played at Stourbridge Football Club on the 14th April with the entry fee on the gate still set at £2.00. More information is on the front page in the News Scroller.

Congratulations also go to Connect Sports in Division 2, Pye Green Towers and Living Hope Church in Division 3, who have all secured promotion from their respective Divisions.

Now on to this weeks Preview;

Whilst current leaders St Mary’s have a week off we have a Cup Final rehearsal with their main challengers Sheldon playing Zion Athletic. I think Zion’s mind will be fully focused on their Cup game whereas, Sheldon just need to take it one game at a time. I’m going for Sheldon to keep the pressure on at the top of the table with a win here.

All Saints Olympic bounced back from their Semi defeat against Zion Athletic by defeating them 4-1 last week. They face struggling St Thomas’ Aldridge tomorrow. For St Thomas, yet another tough match following last weeks defeat to Sheldon but they desperately need some points from somewhere. I can’t see anything but a win for All Saints here.

It would take a massive swing in form for Sheldon and St Mary’s not to occupy the top 2 places come seasons end and with that in mind, it leaves the aforementioned All Saints Olympic and Clarendon battling away to see who can finish 3rd. (I’m discounting any others pinching 3rd). Clarendon, for so long at the top have struggled this season but will still want to end up as high as possible. They have a home game against Amblecote tomorrow, who themselves still need a few more points to be sure of First Division football next season. I believe that Clarendon will be the winners here.

City Church, (who may have ambitions of pinching that 3rd spot), play bottom placed Sandwell United. Sorry Myles, but I think it’s 3 points for City.

Corinthians SK, who are level with Sandwell on points at the bottom, travel to face Halesowen Zion. If Corinthians can reproduce the battling form from their narrow defeat against City last week then they could spring a surprise here. However, Halesowen, like St Thomas’ and Amblecote, need points in their fight against that last relegation place. I’m going for a point each here.

In Division 2, Connect Sports can seal 2nd place with a win over Renewal Solihull, who have never recovered from the long lay off due to the bad weather. Solihull normally have a better 2nd half of the season but this season it has not worked out that way. I reckon Connect who still have something to aim for, will seal 2nd spot with a win here.

Charlemont Star still have an outside chance of pinching the last promotion place but it is still a massive ask. They need to win and hope that Wolverhampton and Perton lose their last game including an 11 goal swing in their favour at the same time. I’m certain that Charlemont will win, but by how many goals I am not sure. Will they line up with a 3-3-4 attacking formation to chase the goals? I’m going for a 7-1 forecast here 🙂

Rockmount United face Wollaston Free Athletic in the last Division 2 game tomorrow. After forecasting Selly Oak to lose tomorrow I think the result in this game will see Selly Oaks position at the bottom of the table confirmed. Rockmount have pulled away at the bottom in recent weeks and I think they will win again tomorrow.

Well if those 2 last forecasts don’t motivate some players to prove me wrong then i’m not sure what would!

As stated earlier, Pye Green Towers and Living Hope Church are confirmed as being promoted but they could still end up out of the medals positions, (Winners and Runners Up receive them at the Presentation Night on June 14th),. Dudley Lions have 2 games left so all is to still be played for. Dudley need 3 more points to confirm their promotion place and I believe they will do this against Hawbush tomorrow. Although, after reading Hawbush’s Match Report from last weeks game with Zion City there may be a surprise here. But I am sticking with a Dudley win.

The last 2 games tomorrow are in the Division 3 Cup with both games in Group ‘A’. Group ‘B’ is completed with Pye Green Towers and Dudley Lions waiting for the qualifiers of Group ‘A’ in the Semi’s. Zion City face Saint Michael and Living Hope play Place Of Refuge Community Church. I’m going for a Living Hope and Zion double meaning that they will both be through to the Semi’s.

Well, almost back to normality with my Kolumn, no doubt there will be some discussions about these forecasts…exactly why it’s done!! In closing, a big thank you to those of you who have been sending in Match Reports. I do feel that the web-site is vastly improved with your reports coming in and that it gives you the Clubs an input into an ever evolving site. We have made great strides in a short period with this site to achieve what Ed achieved in 10 years, but we are getting there! Your Match Reports are part of making this site what it is, so please keep them coming in on a weekly basis, win, draw or lose.
