Well it has been a while since there have been any updates about the League since the League Presentation. Rather than do 3 or 4 separate reports I thought it best just to summarise what has been happening in the background whilst everyone has enjoyed the World Cup and basked in some sunshine. So here goes;
At the end of the season we had 4 Clubs inform us that they would be folding but all of them have expressed how much they enjoyed being part of the League. Following the AGM we also had another Club fold due to a lack of players being able to commit to it. (This did have a huge impact upon the League being able to issue the fixtures, which has now been resolved). So, it’s a goodbye to some old established Clubs and some relatively new ones. So as League Secretary and on behalf of the League we wish all the players and officials of All Saints Olympic, Amblecote, Darkhouse, Wollaston Free Athletic and Place Of Refuge Community Church the very best for the future.
Sadly, Shawn Devonport also vacated his position as Fixtures Secretary during the Summer months. Shawn held this position for a few years but time constraints with Church, work and other commitments basically meant he felt he was unable to do his role to the level he had previously set himself. I would like to place on record the Management Committee’s thanks to him for the time he spent as Fixtures Secretary.
So where are we heading now ? Well following the AGM and then the withdrawal of 1 further Club I am pleased to announce that the Management Committee and Club Secretaries acted quickly and decided that the League Competition would reduce to 2 Divisions with Division 1 maintaining 12 Clubs and Division 2 having 14 Clubs. The fixtures have been issued and are viewable on the Fixtures Pages of the web site.
I will be doing a review of my finishing predictions made on Christmas Eve last year and will hopefully have some time to do a preview of the coming season. I will take this opportunity to remind people that the League starts its fixtures on August 23rd with the Kevin Kovacs Memorial Game which will be between last seasons Division 1 Winners, St Mary’s and the League Challenge Cup Winners, Zion Athletic.
