Time has really been against me this week and sadly some of the things I wanted to do have had to be put on hold until the weekend, (finishing off Season Preview and First weeks reviews). Again, thanks to the Club Secs who have submitted Match Reports from their mid-week games, they are available to view in the Match Reports Section. Sounds like Wenesbury Baptists 4th goal against Corinthians SK was a bit special!
Moving onto tomorrow, the 2 most decorated teams in the League face each other, Chawn Hill Church host Clarendon and between them they have 25 League Honours, not including the old 5 a-side tournaments that we used to have. Chawn’s honours have been spread over 20+ years, whereas, Clarendon have dominated the last 10 years within the League and are still in my mind currently the team to be measured against. I fully expect Clarendon to pick up 3 points tomorrow.
St Mary’s play Charlemont Star and whilst neither team gained 3 points in the first weekend of the season I believe they can both take some confidence from their performances. I’m tipping St Mary’s to get all the points here but maybe only by a 2 goal margin.
Sheldon host St Thomas’ Aldridge who took a bit of a thumping last week. I’m anticipating more of the same for them tomorrow as Sheldon will also be looking for their first win of the season. If their strikers are on fire it could be a long 90 minutes for the Aldridge lads.
A fixture that has been played many times, (I’m sure Pete Bennett will know exactly how many), sees Rowley College play Connect Sports, (Connect having had previous names). However, I’m sure that Willis and Pete and others associated with both Clubs will meet each other with a big smile on each others faces. Once the game starts though I expect a very competitive game and it’s a tough one to call! I’ve gone with hunches rather than my head in my early seasons predictions and not done too well. So my head says a draw and that’s what I’m sticking with, but a score draw.
Newly promoted Wolverhampton and Perton play City Church and like the other newly promoted teams I believe it will take them a while to adjust to the more experienced teams in Division 1. So I’m going for a win for City Church.
The last game in Division 1 sees the 2 teams from Zion Christian Centre playing each other. Halesowen banged in 6 goals last week whilst Zion Athletic conceded 6! This will be a closer game than those played last week but I think Zion Athletic will be the victors here.
Renewal Solihull, who I fancy to have a strong season sit top of the pile with 2 wins from 2. I’m expecting them to carry on their fine form against Monyhull Church. Solihull’s experience should be too much for the Hull lads and a 3 goal winning margin would not surprise me.
Big hitters from last week Zion City, started the season as they finished but their opponents tomorrow will be of sterner stuff. Pye Green Towers also had an excellent win last week. I anticipate at least 5 goals scored between these 2 teams. But who will get the most? I’m plumping for Zion to edge it.
Wednesbury Baptist host Corinthians SK and they will be confident approaching this game after winning the reverse tie last Wednesday 4-1. It’s not something we like to see as a League, teams playing each other 2 matches running but occasionally it has to be done. I expect Wednesbury to win again as they probably carry the greater goal scoring threat.
Maple Leaf Rovers host Rockmount with both teams looking for their first win. Maple Leaf got a draw whilst Rockmount suffered a 1-4 defeat. I think this could well be a draw.
Dudley Lions and Hawbush have both played 2 games winning 1 and losing 1. Dudley Lions are my favourites to win here.
Brierley Hill with 2 defeats look as though they are in for a long slog this season as their form from last season continues into this. Saint Michael will fancy their chances of 3 points here. So do I.
The last game sees Selly Oak play Sandwell United. 2 teams who have struggled in recent times. Both teams have lost by a 2 goal margin to Solihull so far this season and because of that alone I’m tipping a draw.
Have fun folks, you could be in my shoes and working a 12 hour shift instead!
