Kovacs’ Kolumn Preview January 18th

With 6 of the scheduled games for tomorrow already postponed and in all likelihood a fair few to be called off tomorrow I’m not sure if a preview for this week is required. However, I will do a quick preview and see what transpires.

St Mary’s can put pressure on the chasing teams with a win against Halesowen Zion tomorrow. Should they turn up with the right attitude this should be a comfortable win for them. Whilst a win for St Mary’s will enhance their title chances, a defeat for Halesowen will see them still looking over their shoulders at St Thomas’ Aldridge at the other end of the table.

The only other remaining fixture in Division One is All Saints Olympic vs City Church. If this game goes ahead, I am sure that City will give their all to prove they are not a fading force in the Division. However, I take the young legs of All Saints on a heavy pitch to nick the points but they will have to battle hard in doing so.

Current leaders in Division Two can take a massive step in trying to achieve back to back titles but Wollaston Free Athletic will be no pushovers. Wollaston have only lost by the odd goal in their last 2 games and this may be a match that’s won by those that want it more. Chasing the title should just give Chawn that extra desire and I take them to win by the odd goal.

Darkhouse visit Rockmount United and I will tip Darkhouse to add to their win last week leaving Rockmount and Selly Oak Methodist to battle out who goes down at the end of the season.

Match Of The Day is undoubtedly the Division Three clash between Pye Green Towers and Living Hope Church. I believe that Living Hope must win this if they are to have any hopes of becoming Champions. Neither team have played since December 21st so no current form to go off. For me, Pye Green just seem to have that bit of resoluteness this season and should they carry that on into this game then I see a narrow win for them. A result that would almost ensure that they will be Champions.

Dudley Lions in 3rd place will not have given up hope of gatecrashing the top of the table and face an improving Zion City tomorrow. I am going for Zion to carry on their recent good form making the promotion race even closer.

4th placed Place Of Refuge Community Church play Monyhull Church. This fixture has been moved to Place Of Refuge’s venue as it is unlikely that Rowheath would have been playable. Monyhull had a tremendous win last week but I think it’s back to earth with a bang tomorrow with Place Of Refuge winning and in doing so really making the top of the table interesting.

Maple Leaf host St Michael and whilst I predicted them to lose to Monyhull last week I didn’t expect a 6-0 defeat. Maple Leaf really seem to be struggling and if they carry on their recent form I can’t tip anything but a St Michael win.

Possibly the only game that I am confident that will be on is the clash between Hawbush and Brierley Hill AOG at South Rd. Whilst Hawbush are 7 points adrift of Brierley Hill, they also have 4 games in hand on them. The Hill, like Maple Leaf, are in terrible form and Hawbush may fancy their chances. However, I am going for a draw in this one.
