Kovacs’ Kolumn Review 28th December + 4th January

A quick review of the last two weekends matches, not that there were many actually played!

Division One didn’t have any fixtures on December 28th and only one game survived the atrocious weather we are currently having with Halesowen Zion beating St Thomas Aldridge 5-0. Tom Doran returning with his scoring boots notching 2 goals and with Gary Austin bagging 2 as well a goal from Russ Franklin means Halesowen also leapfrog Amblecote in the table.

In Division Two Chawn Hill Church take the initiative in the title race with 2 wins in 2 weeks. Firstly beating Darkhouse 6-3 on December 28th and then coming from behind with 2 goals in the last 5 minutes to beat rivals Connect Sports 3-2. Having spoken with Willis from Connect Sports it appears to be a case of what may have been. I was somewhat surprised to here off him that for such a massive game he only had 9 of his normal first team in his starting line up before kick off. A special mention must go to Vernon Dore who played for them approaching the age of 57!

December 28th saw one Division 3 and 1 Division 3 Group ‘A’ Cup game played, both at South Rd. Place Of Refuge Community Church beat Brierley Hill AOG 2-0 and in the process leapfrogging them and Maple Leaf Rovers in the table. Whilst in the Divisional Cup game Zion City thumped Hawbush 7-1 with Thomas Queensborough again scoring for fun netting 4 times. After a bashing like that Hawbush must take a lot of heart from their win against Maple Leaf Rovers on January 4th running out 5-0 winners.
