Kovacs’ Kolumn Review 8th March

Last week saw the last Cup Quarter Final game played with Sheldon completing the Semi Final line up with a 2-0 win over Place Of Refuge Community Church courtesy of goals from Daniel Harper and Lewis Towers. With no match report to glean any information from I would assume that this was probably a straight forward win for the Division One team.

A request to get a game in off Phil from Amblecote due to the lack of football proves how football can turn on you. A hastily arranged game against All Saints Olympic was organised only for Phil to find out a fair few of his players, and himself, would not be available. The best laid plans and requests eh Phil! Credit to the lads who turned out for Amblecote though, whilst no one likes to lose, a 3-1 defeat to All Saints was in my eyes a decent result. As for All Saints, it’s a result that propels them into 2nd place in the table and whilst I do not expect them to remain there, it looks pleasing on the eye for them.

Clarendon seem to be back in the swing of things with another win, 4-2 over Corinthians SK. It looks to be between them and All Saints for 3rd place. As for Corinthians, it leaves them level on points at the bottom with Sandwell United.

Sandwell lost 5-0 to City Church who look set for a mid-table finish.

Craig Micklewright scored the only goal in Rowley College’s win over Zion Athletic. A win that Pete Bennett dedicated to his Dad who had passed on the day before. I think everyone who knows Pete would agree that he is without doubt one of the characters within the League, and a gentleman to boot. No disrespect to Zion, but I am glad that your team won buddy, our thoughts are with you. If you don’t know Pete, he is the featured image this week.

Chawn Hill Church beat Renewal Solihull 4-1 dashing my hopes of a clean sweep in all of my forecasts! So Chawn end the season as Division 2 Champions having only lost 1 game. As for Solihull, well their aim is to get promotion in what is turning into an even closer contest than I predicted with Charlemont Star entering the race.

Wolverhampton and Perton gave Selly Oak Methodist a proper thumping 8-1 to stay in 2nd place. 6 individual goal scorers probably means it was a good all round performance from them.

As mentioned above, Charlemont Star have entered the promotion race with a 4-0 win over a struggling Wollaston Free Athletic. After a strong first season in Division 3 Wollaston are finding it tough going in Division 2, but credit to them for battling on.

Rockmount won their 2nd game in a row with a 2-1 win over Darkhouse, Junior Davies who has transferred from Clarendon popping up with a goal and Jayson Sewell netting the other.

Division 3 took a back seat with the Division 3 Cup Group games taking place. I’m allowing myself a pat on the back with my forecast of Zion City beating Living Hope Chuch, (come on, honestly, how many of you thought I was bonkers on that one?), but goals from Thomas Queensborough and Benjamin Wilkes were enough for them to win 2-0.

In the other game in that group Saint Michael beat Hawbush 6-2 with Szymon Domachowski netting a hat trick.

Group B saw League Leaders narrowly beat bottom placed Monyhull 1-0 whilst Dudley Lions beat Maple Leaf 3-0.
