Kovacs’ Kolumn Preview January 11th

Well, with the weather not improving it may be better if I just forecast whether the games would be on rather than doing a prediction. Let’s hope that the majority of games will be played otherwise Clubs will be playing mid-week fixtures at the end of the season. It will be interesting to see how the lengthened break affects all the teams. It may be that players will be starting new diets after this Saturday.

In Division One the top two teams, St Mary’s and Sheldon take on the bottom two teams, Corinthians SK and Sandwell United. I do not expect any shocks here with both teams at the top winning their respective games.

3rd plays 4th with All Saints Olympic visiting Rowley College at Lion Farm. Despite Rowleys recent resurgence I believe All Saints younger legs will be too much for them, even allowing for their experience. Should All Sants win and my prediction above happen, then the top 3 teams will create a bit of a gap at the top of the Division.

Clarendon travel to play St Thomas’ Aldridge and I cannot see anything else but a very comprehensive win for them adding to St Thomas’ woes. If Everton Morrison has his scoring boots on, I can see at least a 5 goal winning margin in this one.

Two teams currently sitting in mid-table face each other at Rowheath Pavillion. City Church and Zion Athletic will be giving their all in this game. Zion must win if they are to have any lingering hopes of getting near the top whilst City must win if they don’t want their season to just drift away. Whilst Zion have a mean defence I believe City’s greater goal scoring threat will see them take all 3 points, leapfrogging Zion in the process.

The final game sees Amblecote play host to Halesowen Zion with only 1 point between these two teams. Both teams will still be nervously looking over their shoulders at St Thomas’ Aldridge and the winners of this would take big strides in retaining their Division One status for next season. If Jadon is at center half then I can see him shackling Halesowen Zion’s main threat in Tom Doran and helping Amblecote to 3 points but it will not be easy with Halesowens confidence on a high after last weeks 5-0 win over St Thomas’ Aldridge.

Current leaders Chawn Hill Church play Charlemont Star and on current form should win this one. Chawn had a very impressive December but were only 5 minutes away from a defeat last week. The title is theirs to lose and if they do not approach this game properly then make no doubt about it, Charlemont will look to take advantage. They have a tight defence and could spring a surprise. However, I do take Chawn to win this in a very close game.

A huge game sees Wolverhampton and Perton Churches host Connect Sports at Aldersley Stadium. Last week I would have just tipped Connect Sports but after speaking with Willis regarding their turn out with Chawn it has made me think again. Should Wolverhampton win, it will enhance their promotion credentials. Connect really need to win this game to keep their season alive and not falter away. Hard one to call but I will stick with a Connect win.

Renewal Solihull host Rockmount United and should keep the pressure on the teams at the top and whilst I believe they are out of the title race the race for promotion is too close to call at the moment. A win here for Renewal will make the result between Wolverhampton and Connect even more important.

The last game sees Wollaston Free Athletic play Darkhouse. Both teams are safe from relegation and should look to be playing games just for fun with no pressure attached. I’m predicting a score draw for this one.

Division Threes Match Of The Day is Dudley Lions versus Pye Green Towers. Dudley Lions will be fired up for this game as they need to win to stay in any contention for the title. Pye Green can end those hopes with a win and move one step closer to being named Champions. If they lose, then Living Hope Church could take advantage come seasons end. I think Pye Green will be massively focused on this game knowing just how important it is and take the 3 points available. (I can see Steve from Dudley Lions smiling at this prediction).

Living Hope Church play St Michael who are in last but one place. They should keep the pressure on Pye Green at the top with a win against St Michael.

Hawbush, fresh from a moral boosting 5-0 win last week travel to play 4th placed Place Of Refuge Community Church. I reckon they will come down to earth with a bang as I can only see Place Of Refuge winning this one continuing their season long improvement.

Maple Leaf Rovers are a team currently in free fall and will look forward to reversing this trend against bottom Club Monyhull Church. This should be a Maple Leaf win but I’m going with one of my hunches with a Monyhull win. (Surely I have to get 1 correct come seasons end?)

Another team slipping fast down the table are Brierley Hill AOG and they play Zion City, a team who have also improved as the season had progressed. Zion will win this and jump above Brierley Hill.

So that’s it folks. Let’s hope that most, if not all, games get played. For everyone who does get involved this weekend I hope you haven’t over indulged over the Christmas period especially with pitches likely to sap players energy levels having to play in wet conditions.
