Kovacs’ Kolumn Preview January 25th

Having just travelled back from work at 7pm with the rain still pouring down I really cannot see many, if any at all, matches taking place in the morning. Even those pitches that are not waterlogged run the risk of being ruined long term if they are played on and cut up. Indeed, Shawn Devonport sent me some pictures of their pitch the other week and it has been battered due to another league playing on it.  We have had numerous matches already called off. Please see the postponements in the Fixtures/Results section. These are correct as of 20.30hrs Friday night.

Only two of the Cup Quarter-Finals matches are still on but All Saints Olympic vs City Church has been moved to Aston University Recreation Centre with a 7am pitch inspection scheduled. The other Quarter Final game is between Corinthians SK vs Zion Athletic at Moor Lane.Pavillion. My forecasts, if these games are played, will be that All Saints and City Church will go to penalties. Zion Athletic should progress to the semi’s but cannot go into the game with a complacent attitude.

Only one game left standing in Division Two with Chawn Hill Church scheduled to play Selly Oak Methodist. I’m not sure how Chawn’s new home pitch fares with the rain compared to the Clubs historical tie with South Rd but if this game goes ahead Chawn should be confident of gaining another 3 points. A repeat of last weeks result would almost put the title in their grasp, but whilst Selly Oak themselves have been struggling this season I anticipate a close game. Chawn possibly winning by 2 goals.

Mentioning South Rd above, leads me on to Brierley Hill AOG who play Monyhull Church in Division Three’s Group ‘B’ Cup. I reckon Monyhull could come good again this week but it will be close.

So that’s it. A brief one this week and I will be amazed if more than 2 games are played tomorrow. I will be at work waiting for texts saying postponed   🙁  🙁
