Match Report 12th January

Brierley Hill AOG 1 vs 3 Christ Church Coseley

Many thanks to Lee McGhan from Christ Church for this report..

After last week’s win we went into this game naming an unchanged team, with prayers of keeping 11 blokes on the field and not having a repeat of the last visit to South road.
Christ Church started bright and within minutes had created a couple of chances but nothing testing the keeper to much, while the other end Conor didn’t really have much to do. On around 30 minutes Christ Church had a goal ruled out for offside and we could sense a goal was coming. However it came at the wrong end for us. Brierley Hill winger beating 2 men on the edge he found the back of the net with a nice finish.
Christ Church continued to attack and with a header from Craig and 1 from Bob both saved it looked like we would end the half 1-0 down until Scott broke free down the left and sailed a perfect cross on to the head of Lewis to send us in level at ht. Just what we needed and deserved.
2nd half we stepped up the tempo with every ball over the top or attack from brierley hill we had a white brick wall in dan dean Josh and Dave stopping everything. A few more chances went our way but the keeper kept us out with a few more brilliant saves. With a few changes to personal we pushed for that 2nd goal and not long after we finally got it. Craig producing some great strength to hold of 2 defenders before lobbing the on rushing keeper. 2-1
Shortly after we made it 3-1, a low corner missed the players at the front and found Bob unmarked 5 yards out to poke home.
Brierley hill still didn’t give up and with a few minutes left was awarded a penalty and with a chance to make it 3-2 the Brierley Hill forward went for top corner power but the ball sailed 2 foot over the bar. A sigh of relief from us and after a few more passes and a free kick sailing out of play the ref blew for full time.
3-1 to the lads.
A tough tackling game today but an all round solid display. The lads who came off the bench got up to speed with the game and we never looked like we would lose once we got the goal back.
Defence was solid today nothing troubled the back 4 and they was in control from start to finish.
Man of the match was Dan Broxholme (although giving a penalty away and falling over his own feet 😂😂😂😂) he was 1st to every header and made some massive challenges to keep the opposition out.
Well done lads that’s 2 in 2 for 2019. Let’s keep this going.
