Thanks to Martin Ogbourn for the following report regarding their match with Clarendon last Saturday.
Clarendon 3 vs 2 City Church 2
It was great to be back playing football again and the quality of the match was surprisingly good. City raced into a 2-0 goal lead in the first half and were playing some lovely football. Atkins was clinical for both finishes, but City missed at least two more clear opportunities which came back to haunt us. It was an open game though as Chattaway made two remarkable finger-tip saves to retain the 2-goal half time lead.
The second half was completely different as Clarendon took control of possession and City only occasionally flickered on the break. However, the 3 second half goals for Clarendon came in the final 20 minutes. The winner coming with virtually the last kick of the game as a deflected shot wrong-footed the City keeper. It was a bitter pill to swallow after we worked so hard to get ahead in the game. A draw would have been a fair result in my opinion as there were chances at either end, but the pressure told. At least we were back playing again! Chattaway and Atkins were the joint players-of-the-match.
