St Mary’s Route To The Cup Final + Squad

Route to the Final
We beat Selly Oak Methodist 5-1 in the First Round of the Cup. Although Selly Oak started off with more possession a brace within the first 10 minutes from Luke Wiedeman on the break did the damage and whilst Selly Oak did get a consolation goal we added to our tally regularly throughout the game. Wiedeman completed his hat-trick with the other goals from Andrew ‘Tink’ Beeson and Nick Sheward. We faced a tougher test in the 2nd Round coming up against a Clarendon side who we had defeated 3-2 a few weeks before in the League. The scoreline, 3-2, was the same but we felt we controlled this game more but with them pulling a goal back to make it 3-2 from 3-1 meant we could not relax until the final whistle blew. We drew City Church in the Quarter-Final, a game we knew we could not take for granted and we progressed to the next round with Andrew Harris finding the winner in extra time. This after City Church had a penalty saved in normal time. The Semi-Final was another tight game against a determined Wolverhampton and Perton Churches side. But we held firm and won 2-0 with Thomas Locke breaking from midfield to score both goals.
