Charlemont Star 3 St Matthews 3

Thanks Andy for sending in this match report.
After a two week break we entertained third in the table St Matthews. St Matthews started the game the better forcing our keeper into a couple of saves to keep the score level. On 10 minutes Gary Lunt forced a corner which was taken by James Wood who scored directly from it, 1-0. On 20 minutes St Matthews were reduced to ten men. Both teams were by now creating opportunities but we extended our lead on 33 minutes with Chris James finishing from close range, assisted by Jamie Holder. On 39 minutes St Matthews reduced the deficit after scoring directly from a free kick firmly struck passed our keeper, 2-1.
HT: 2-1
Early into the second half we again restored our two goal advantage with Jamie Holder scoring his 20th goal of the season, on 48 minutes finishing a well worked move down the right hand side, assisted by Gary Lunt, 3-1. St Matthews albeit with ten men never game up the fight and again reduced the score line to one when they scored on 59 minutes, 3-2. We had a number of very good opportunities to extend our lead again with Rory Taylor, Jamie Holder and Brad Tiernan missing good chances. We were also reduced to ten men with Ben Fullard leaving the play on 86 minutes.
St Matthews were also very dangerous and put us under pressure and they finally after forcing a corner in the last minute swung the ball in, with their unmarked player scoring with a bullet header past our keeper, Brandon Smith, 3-3.
FT: 3-3
We wish all the best to St Matthews for the rest of the season and thanks to the officials, Jon, Andy and Kelvin.
