Zion Athletic 2-0 Halesowen Zion

Just a quick report from me! James predictions were up on the dressing room wall and we delivered with 3 points on the first game of the season.

After a scrappy 10 minutes we started to open Halesowen up and got the lead when Leon played in Shawn and he rounded the keeper. The same combination kept linking up and missed 2 more decent opportunities including the cross bar being rattled. Halesowen then went down to 10 men and they dug in to half time with ourselves missing a few more decent opportunities.

Within 5 minutes of the restart we went down to 10 men and after a scrappy 10 minutes where neither side could create much we started to dominate again and created numerous good chances without scoring before we won a penalty which Shawn dispatched after a blatant hand ball. We then went on to hit the bar 3 times and miss a few more gilt-edged chances before the game finished 2-0. Halesowen had one good chance when their sub headed over from 12 yards and Ralphy tested Ant’s handling a few times with two 25 yard efforts.

We defended excellently and the new additions at the back should mean that we keep things much tighter this season and hopefully we can be more clinical in front of goal! Clarendon next week…….
